Description
General Information:
Mupirocin (previously known as pseudomonic acid A) is a topical antibacterial ointment effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA). It exhibits highly potent bactericidal action against major skin pathogens.
Mechanism of Action (MOA):
Mupirocin acts by competitively inhibiting the enzyme isoleucyl transfer RNA synthetase, preventing the incorporation of isoleucine into bacterial proteins, thus inhibiting protein synthesis and killing bacteria.
Indications:
For dermatologic use only in:

Furunculosis
-
Impetigo
-
Folliculitis
-
Infected eczema
-
Ecthyma
-
Skin infections in the elderly, including leg ulcers

Minor wounds and minor burns

Prevention of infections in abrasions, wounds, and small cuts
Dosage:
-
Apply to the affected area three times daily for up to 10 days.

Patients not responding within this period should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to mupirocin or any component of the ointment.

Not for ophthalmic or intranasal use.
Adverse Effects:

Localized burning sensation, itching, stinging, and dryness at the site of application.

Rarely, cutaneous sensitization may occur.
Storage Conditions:

Store between 20°C to 25°C.

Do not freeze.

Keep out of the reach of children.
